It’s important to know the difference. One survey by the US National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health estimates that women can absorb up to 2 kilograms of chemicals per year through personal care and cosmetics products.

Here are a few common toxins that may appear in “natural” products:

Sodium Laurel Sulfate, sodium lauryl sulfate (SLS), sodium dodecyl, sodium laureth sulfate (SLFS): a common foaming agent in commercial shampoos, it’s an endocrine disruptor linked to serious eye problems, especially in children.

Benzene/Benzoic Acid/Benzyl Benzoate is considered a carcinogen, an endocrine disruptor, and is suspected to cause birth defects

Methyl, Propyl, Butyl and Ethyl Paraben. Parabens are used to inhibit bacterial growth but are linked to breast cancer, allergic reactions and skin rashes.
